I have been a consistent advocate for higher staff salaries. I have voted and succeeded in giving salary increases every year that I have been elected to the school board. In March 2022, we will be approving a budget that includes a 5% salary increase for all staff, which will the largest in 21 years. The budget will also include a 20% pay increase for bus drivers and a 25% increase for school nurses. We must continue to make staff salaries a focus in an effort to retain the best and brightest educators in the commonwealth.

Portsmouth Public Schools will begin to provide an increased catalog of highly-relevant CTE courses that empower students to explore their interests by engaging with learning experiences across different careers and industries – including multi-year support for high-demand, high-interest careers. Students will have the opportunity to explore career interests or concentrate their study within career pathways that help prepare them for industry-recognized certification exams or more advanced study and training.

The word “equity” is everywhere these days– but what does it really mean? What if it means something different to me, to my colleagues, and to my community? A crucial part of the “equity conversation” is creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect to why equity matters to them. We will continue to create and build upon programming to ensure that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed. Portsmouth Public Schools will be the place where equity means, “All Children Succeed”.
